About Drone CI
Drone is a self-service Continuous Integration platform (Apache-2.0, Go) built on container technology: pipelines are configured as code in a simple YAML file committed to the repository, and every step runs inside an isolated Docker container that is downloaded at runtime (drone.io). It integrates with GitHub, GitHub Enterprise, Gitee, GitLab, Gogs, Gitea, Bitbucket Cloud and Bitbucket Server, runs natively on Linux (x64, ARM, ARM64) and Windows x64, and installs from a single binary or the official Docker image (drone.io install section: download the official Docker image or build from source). A Drone server is paired with standalone runner daemons that poll it for workloads — Docker, exec, SSH, VM and cloud-init runners are documented (docs.drone.io); official Docker Hub images cover the server (drone/drone), the Docker runner (drone/drone-runner-docker, named in the official install guide), an SSH runner and a Kubernetes autoscaler, with an Arch extra package and a command-line client (drone-cli) via Homebrew and Arch extra. Drone ships in two distributions: the free open-source Community Edition (no proprietary code) and a commercial Enterprise Edition (docs.drone.io). Drone joined the Harness family (drone.io): the former harness/drone and drone/drone GitHub repositories now 301-redirect to the harness/harness monorepo (verified 2026-10-26), whose README describes Harness Open Source as the next generation of Drone while a Drone snapshot continues on its drone branch; the latest Drone release is v2.28.2 (2026-04-20), consistent across the GitHub release API, the drone/drone image tag and Arch extra.
