About Forgejo
Forgejo is a self-hosted, lightweight software forge (GPL-3.0-or-later, Go) that provides Git hosting plus issues, pull requests, wikis, kanban boards, releases and an interface familiar to GitHub users, and is a drop-in replacement for Gitea (forgejo.org). It was created in 2022 by former Gitea maintainers and the FOSS community under the umbrella of Codeberg e.V., a democratic non-profit organization, and focuses on security, federation, privacy and a low server profile that runs on nearly any machine, including a Raspberry Pi (forgejo.org; announcement 2022-12-15). The main repository and releases live on Codeberg — there is no GitHub mirror — and official container images are published to the Codeberg container registry (the Docker Hub forgejo/forgejo repository is an explicit placeholder that points there); packages are available via the Arch extra repository, Homebrew, a community snap and the AUR. There is no official first-party mobile app; third-party iOS clients (Forji, ForgeGo, iTea, Fjord Mobile) connect to Forgejo instances (iTunes lookup 2026-10-26).
